“I need to wake up” - Melissa Etheridge

choongyong.koh November 2nd, 2006

This is the song played at the end of the movie “An Inconvenient Truth” during the credits

Have I been sleeping?
I’ve been so still
Afraid of crumbling
Have I been careless?
Dismissing all the distant rumblings
Take me where I am supposed to be
To comprehend the things that I can’t see

Cause I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up
Now

And as a child
I danced like it was 1999
My dreams were wild
But the promise of this new world
Would be mine
Now I am throwing off the carelessness of youth
To listen to an inconvenient truth

Well I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up
Now

I am not an island
I am not alone
I am my intentions
Trapped here in this flesh and bone

And I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up
Now

I want to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up
Now

Post-screening thoughts

choongyong.koh October 31st, 2006

The private movie screening of “An Inconvenient Truth” I organised under the WP Youth Wing was over last evening. Considering the fact that when the idea was first mooted, we were asking ourselves if we were confident to sell the minimum requirement of 50 tickets for a group booking, I must say the turnout was pretty encouraging. The theater we book, although small, was filled except for the first 2 rows.

Thank you all who came to watch the movie. :)

This was the second time I watched this movie, and this time I was able to understand more of the information presented. The feeling I get at the end of the 2 hours was still the same - there is an urgent need to get the message to more people.
The encouraging thought is that at least 2 people I know have blogged about their thoughts after watching the movie.

  • A friend of mine accompanied her husband to the movie last night, and expected to watch a boring documentary on a Monday evening. The movie topic gripped her attention instead, and she left the theater with a new found interest in the topic. She is now telling friends to watch the movie, and encouraging people to “save the frog”
  • A member of Singapore Peak Oil Group (a Google group of like-minded people who are concerned of the Peak Oil crisis) told about her thoughts at My Inconvenient Truth.

Group Screening of An Inconvenient Truth

choongyong.koh September 26th, 2006

Ok, it is pretty obvious that I have been putting much of my attention lately on the movie “An Inconvenient Truth“. It is due to be launched in Singapore on 26 Oct, and I am planning for a group screening of the movie sometime after the launch. I am still trying to get the best deal for the group screening, but if you are interested, drop an email to inconvenienttruth@choongyong.com with your email and contact. I will let you know when the details are confirmed.

And if you are wondering if I have any commercial gains for promoting this movie, the answer is “No.”. My objective is to raise awareness of the movie and the problem that we are facing as a planet.

An Inconvenient Truth on Bizarro

choongyong.koh September 26th, 2006

I was trying to search for a copy of the comics that was published on the past Sunday (24 September 2006), but could not locate it on the net.  If you happen to have a copy, do go and search to get a good laugh.  I can only describe it here -  image of a bunch of dinosaurs leaving a “Mesozoic Theater”.  The TRex laughing his head off “Yeah, right! A big ball of fire from the sky! I’m SO-O-O-O scared!  The title of the movie was, of course, “An Inconvenient Truth”.

Interesting statement from the artist about how short-sighted some of the critics of the movie are.

On another note, I came across this blog - “An Inconvenient Truth” saved my father 40,000 dollars.  Impact of the movie is great. :)
