With the most recent session of Parliament post-GE2011, the point of this post ought to become clearer. Like you said, Hansard is an edited verbatim record; the UK Hansard makes this equally clear. The role of the Speaker in clearing reports should not (without cause) be a significant obstacle to our belief in a fairly objective Hansard record.

But I would agree that Parliamentary debates should be streamed, if not aired, in full – with a full video archive maintained and easily available. A quick search for the UK parliamentary video archive points us to http://www.parliamentlive.tv/Main/Home.aspx, where a two-year video archive is available on demand. Videos are published rapidly, usually by the end of the day or by the next working day. Certainly, such a step would score quick points for the transparency and objectivity of political process.

You had the greatest courage to stand in Sengkang West, despite it being carved out with the demographics never in WP’s favour from the start. However, if you continue actively serving in Sengkang West for the next 5 years, the likelihood of a breakthrough would be high. The recent polls have strongly indicated the younger generation of digital citizens are firmly behind WP, it’s only the older demographics PLUS the ex-China, ex-India, ex-Myanmar New Singaporeans were not. So keep on keeping your eyes on the goal, and ears to the ground! You will make it!
